About Shri Chintamani.

Chintamani Ashtavinayak Mandir at Theur faces north and the Sabhamandap (mandir corridor) is made up of wooden. A small fountain made up of black stone is seen in the hall. The idol of Ganesh faces east and is swayambhu (self emanated), with its trunk turned towards the left side. His eyes are studded with precious stones. An interesting feature of the Chintamani Ganapati Temple is that there is a separate section for meditation, called as Overry. A small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is there within the premises of this mandir .The legend of Theur Chintamani Bhagawan ganesha Mandir is related to the Chintamani gem. Sage Kapila was holding a gem known as Chintaamani which was able to granting one's wishes. As soon as a younger prince (son of Gunavati and Abhijita) by identify Guna, visited the sage who supplied an ideal food to the prince, with the powers of the gem. Captivated by the ability of the gem, the prince stole it from the sage. The sage prayed Bhagawan ganesha for assist and the Lord (bhagawan) restored the gem from the prince. Nevertheless the sage refused to just accept it and commenced to name Bhagawan ganesha as Chintaamani Vinayaka. For the reason that incident happened underneath a Kadamba tree, Theyoor was also called Kadambanagar.
