The 8th day of Durga name is Maha Gauri. Mahagauri means one clean and bright sort of a ray of lightning.

This is exactly the form of Goddess Parvati when she did penance to have Shiva as her companion. It is thought that a result of the extreme Tapas performed by her without moving caused soil and dirt to gather on her body. Lord (Bhagawan) Shiva cleaned her with water from Ganga. Purity is depicted in this type of Durga.
