About Manasa.

Manasa Devi, the snake mata, is worshipped by Hindus, primarily for the prevention and treatment of snakebites and communicable illnesses like smallpox and rooster pox in addition to for prosperity and fruitfulness. She stands for each 'destruction' and 'regeneration', virtually akin to a snake shedding its pores and skin and being reborn. Legends have it that she was discarded by her father Lord shiva and husband Jagatkiru, and hated by her stepmother, Chandi, who scooped out certainly one of Manasa's eyes.
