Dattatreya is a saint well-known in Puranas. He was the son of Anasuya and Maharshi Atri. The title ‘Dattaterya’ could be divided into two phrases- ‘Datta’ and ‘Atreya’, the place the previous means given (by Vishnu) and the latter refers to Sage Atri, His father. He's thought of to be the incarnation (avatar) of the Trinity- Lord brahma, Load vishnu and Lord shiva - a Trimurti Avatar.


Lord (bhagawan) Dattatreya is represented as having three faces, considered one of Lord (bhagawan) Brahma, the second of Lord (bhagawan) Vishnu and the third of Lord (bhagawan) Siva. He has six hands. The three proper fingers maintain a trident, a mala (rosary) and a lotus flower whereas the three left fingers have s talk about, a conch and a water pot. The three heads from the identical trunk signify the powers of creation, preservation and destruction. It signifies the intimate unity of everything.
